Modelos terapêuticos em movimento no Portugal do século XIX: Actores, discursos e controvérsias

Abstract

Esta dissertação de mestrado pretende apresentar os sistemas ou métodos terapêuticos que vigoravam em Portugal ao longo do século XIX. Caracterizar os palcos e os actores destes movimentos numa época em que a arte de curar oscilava entre as concepções dominantes no século anterior e a ciência experimental. A grande movimentação em torno dos sistemas terapêuticos e toda a polémica gerada no seio da sociedade médica portuguesa. Tentar entender os antecedentes das novas heterodoxias terapêuticas e enquadrar a realidade da saúde portuguesa numa Europa em movimento, pelas novas ideias da modernidade.

This master’s degree dissertation aims to present the therapeutic methods or systems that prevailed in Portugal along the nineteenth century, characterizing the stage and the actors of these movements, at a time when the art of healing varied significantly between the dominant conceptions that have emerged in Europe around the experimental science in the century before. The great movement around the therapeutic systems and its controversies within the medical society in Portugal are the subject of this research, in terms of trying to understand the background of new therapeutic heterodoxies that framed the reality of the Portuguese therapeutic system, inspired in new ideas of modernity that cross through the Europe in motion.
