Mulheres Kimbanguistas: trajectos religiosos, rumos quotidianos

Abstract

O que significa ser Mulher Kimbanguista? Reconhecendo que elementos como a religião, a família, a conjugalidade, redes sociais e comunitárias nesta comunidade estão fortemente entrelaçadas, são diversas as formas como as mulheres percepcionam o seu papel e como esta conceptualização informa a sua experiência diária. Estas temáticas conduzem-nos para as relações de poder estabelecidas, não apenas no domínio do género, mas também entre a Igreja e o meio social na qual esta se encontra localizada (bairro da Quinta da Fonte). Processos de adaptação emergem em vários domínios, moldando diferentes formas de pertença, nas quais “África” e “africanidade” são invocadas de forma cambiante. Emergem assim questões relacionadas com a cidadania, tradição e identidade, bem como o que estes significam na experiência quotidiana das mulheres nesta comunidade em Portugal.

What does it mean to be a Kimbanguist Woman? Acknowledging that in the Diaspora elements such as religion, kinship, conjugality, social networks and community and are strongly intertwined, I seek to understand the way these women conceptualize their role and how this informs their daily lives. I aim to give a comprehensive understanding on women within the Kimbanguist Church in Portugal, thereby decodifying how these women articulate diverse meanings and senses of belonging in during daily and religious activities. Addressing these issues implies to shed light on power and gender relations within the community as well as relations constituted between the Church and the surrounding community (neighborhood). Adjustment processes emerge creating specific senses of belonging, where “womanhood” “Africa” and “Africanness” are differently invoked, inducing a reflection on themes such as citizenship, modernity, tradition and identity within the community and beyond it.
